Developing good sleeping habits in my kids has been a priority in our parenting. Everyone has something right? For me, it’s sleep. I’m convinced I can be a better mom and my kids behave best when they are well rested and have a consistent sleep pattern. Even so, there are days when naps don’t go as planned, nights when bedtime is delayed and early mornings when I’m woken up before sunrise. It’s then and during those not so perfect moments that perspective proves heroic. It was on one of those days of needed perspective that I jotted down this poem.
It’s Bedtime is a poem for those harried days and icky nights.
It's bedtime. Fussing and crying you fight To be held tight. Conflicted, I comply Knowing this will not always be. Tomorrow, without a whimper You will sleep No longer needing to be held. And now It's me who wants to stay close. Your peaceful breathing Your sweet face nestled in my arms I can't seem to put you down But alas, it's bedtime
